BBG-UK was created to ensure that british breeders had access to the best belgian genetics to ensure the desired improvements to their herd traits could be achieved.
BBG-UK has direct access to BBG Belgium which is the International marketing arm of AWE (Association Wallonian Elvarge).
AWE was formed by the merger of the two major semen cooperatives in Belgium HALIBA and LINALUX
AWE is considered The Reference in the selection, production and distribution on the world market for Belgian Blue Genetics.
AWE in Belgium provides semen and services for over 4000 Beef and Dairy farmers. Calves born on these farms are automatically recorded at birth providing extensive information to record individual bull traits. Further information is automatically collected from the offspring at 13 months and added to the birth data. This extensive ongoing collection of data provides the farmers with highly accurate tools for sire selection.
The aim of BBG-UK is to provide you with with creditable accurate information thus allowing you to select and use semen for both Commercial Beef production and Pedigree breeding. The information is given credibility due to the fact that it is collected by independent sources and authenticated by the BBBHB. Like dairy genetics BBG beef genetics are now available on the world market including the UK. Over the past ten years customers of Cogent, Genus, Avoncroft, SuperSires, Semen World, and other semen companies have benefited from the production of quality semen from Belgium. Now with the introduction of the Internet those genetics are available to you direct.
There is a test facility (CSB) next to the insemination station at Ciney that can house and test 450 bulls per year. Partnerships have been formed with AI companies on the International market and Progressive Genetics in Ireland have combined with BBG to test over 20 bulls to date, specifically to produce calving and slaughter information from Holstein Cows.
BBG only test, collect, process, and market Belgian Blue Semen and Genetics. Our base herd in Belgium comprises of over 1,500,000 full blood cattle. This is approx. 98% of the total World wide population of the breed it is therefore a unique gene pool.
There is no other company in the world that can give you such accurate and detailed information to enable you to select for individual Bull traits as diverse as, calf conformation, gestation length, weight at 400 days and carcass value.
